FanFicRecs K 9 Thefirst 1's review
Possibly the first dedicated attempt to envision Evangelion as one of the Super Robot shows it was deconstructing. As the author mentions in the margins, the basic characterizations for the pilots spawned from recollections of the misleading advertisement for the show as a Child, where it looked like Shinji is a "Goku-Like Determinator, Rei a Snarky, Drill Sergeant Nasty Ice Queen, and Asuka is a cheerful, Innocent Fanservice Girl." And to help fill-out the cast, we so far have the love child of Doctor Weird and Washu (AKA: Ritsuko Akagi), Grapplegun!Gendo, and a completely normal Misato. With a really Cool Bike. Inspired in part by the equally Reconstructive Nobody Dies. You can follow its development here.
FanFicRecs Comartemis' review
I could go on and on about how Crazy Awesome this series is, how it's an excellent reconstruction of NGE, etc etc, but we've heard all that before several times over on this page... so I'll say instead that unlike similar fanfics, this one has a feel more like classic Super Robot shows; Nobody Dies and Shinji And Warhammer 40K kind of lose that feeling as they become crazier and more over-the-top, but so far this one feels like it belongs on a Saturday morning cartoon block next to Getter Robo and Shin Mazinger. Shinji is properly hotblooded for a Super Robot pilot and I'm liking what the author's done with his character, but oddly enough it's the Bridge Crew that's really stealing the show so far; Ritsuko, as mentioned above, is crazy enough and gives off enough Mad Scientist vibes that she's almost certainly a spark (She wears a monocle for Lilith's sake!), Misato is an Action Girl with a Cool Bike, Pen-Pen is a Gundam pilot, and Gendo is about six different types of insane.
